What's Missing at UVU? Add Comment    May 24, 2010

After attending UVU for about a year now, I've asked myself one question.  Where is all the school spirit?  I walk the halls and I see students with their favorite college logo on their sweatshirt and it's not UVU.  I even found myself in this crowd.  Living near Provo all my life and being related to Levell Edwards, I have always been a true blue BYU fan.  But I attend UVU.  Shouldn't I bleed green?

I decided in the fall sememster of 2009 to attend one of UVU's basketball games.  When I arrived I was shocked to see the few that were attending.  I saw more family members then I did students. I felt almost embarrassed to be there.  There is something wrong here!

UVU sports needs more hype.  More excitment!  The only event that is taking place at the moment is baseball.  UVU's baseball team is doing exceptionally well.  They will be playing in the Great West Conference Tournament this week in Edinburg Texas starting May 26th-29th.  They will start off by  fighting Chicago State this comming Wednesday.

I bet that if you were to ask any student roaming the halls of UVU they wouldn't know any of this.  This is the problem with UVU.  They don't have enough fans.  One of the key factors in a game are the fans cheering on their players.  If teams had more support from the fans I would almost guarantee they would play a lot better.  The fans are the ones that give the players that extra "umpf" they need to press forward.  The players would then play a lot harder and actually have pride in who they are playing for.  I would like to give Utah and BYU another rivalry team to play against.  In the end, I would hope just little more of us would bleed green.
