UVU Soccer Tops Boise State 1-0 Add Comment    Sep 19, 2010

POCATELLO, Idaho -- An early goal and a some sturdy defense helped Utah Valley to a 1-0 win over Boise State on Friday afternoon on the campus of Idaho State University.

Camille Broderick scored in the 12th minute--her second goal of the season--and Lauren Sack recorded three saves in earning her first career shutout as the Wolverines (2-3-0) ended a three-game losing streak.

"We had a lot of individuals step up today. Andi Bagdan and our back line had a great day," said head coach Brent Anderson. "Our defense made a lot of big stops. Lauren came up big on a couple of plays. I'm happy with the win and hopefully we can build on that and have a good game Sunday."

The Wolverines out-shot BSU 15-10 including 9-3 in shots on goal, the first time the Wolverines have done that since the season-opening win over Southern Utah.

The Broncos had 12 corner kicks, six in each half, but the UVU defense was able to keep its opponents chances to a minimum.

"That is something we've worked on," said Anderson. "We've given up goals on corners and it's something we've needed to correct."

Katey Turner, Kaitlyn Thomas and Haley Curtis each had two shots on goal for the Wolverines, who will now face Idaho on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT in Pocatello. Idaho edged Idaho State 2-1 on Friday.
