SAINT GEORGE, UT-Having not played a game in over two weeks, the Dixie State College softball team was antsy about the opportunity to play another game. The attitude displayed in their 7-2 and 11-5 doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame de Namur today at Karl Brooks Field.

Opening PacWest play by pounding out 29 hits and clubbing four home runs is way for the Red Storm (4-3, 2-0 PWC) get back on track. Picked in the preseason coaches poll as the favorite for the PacWest title, it appeared the Red Storm had something to prove after going 2-3 at the Las Vegas Tournament.

In the top of the first inning the Aroganuts (6-9. 0-2 PWC) would jump on starter Brittnie Miller (Moab. UT/Grand High School) picking up two runs on three hits to take the early lead.

Miller would respond by shutting down NDNU over the next six innings. She did it not only in the circle but also at the plate. She pitched a complete game and picked up her second win of the season. She would give up seven hits, only two earned runs and struck out six Argonaut batters. She was also 2-4 with a home run and two RBI in game one.

The Red Storm battled back in the bottom of the first by picking up two runs. They would take the lead in the 2nd when Ryanne Dacosin (Kaneohe, HI/Castle High School) would score on a Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) double to left field. The Red Storm led 3-2 thru two innings.

Ashley McFarland (Layton. UT/Layton High School) would homer in the top of the third and Miller would single to left field scoring Breanna Egge (Las Vegas. NV/Centennial High School) who reached on a walk. Red Storm up 5-2.

Miller would stymie a NDNU threat in the fifth when she would force two popups and a ground out with runners at second and third and no outs.

In the bottom of the fifth she would hit a solo shot and the Red Storm would add one more to give them a 7-2 lead.

Judkins, McFarland, Whipple and Higgins would collect two hits a piece in the win for the Red Storm.

For NDNU, Ortega would have two hits in the loss.

In game two, the bats would come alive and they would collect 18 hits. The Red Storm would hit two more home runs the offense would help Lauren Folta (Erda. UT/Tooele High School) pick up her second victory of the season.

Notre Dame de Namur would score early taking a 2-1 lead only to have the Red Storm offense battle back. McFarland would single to left in the 3rd and Egge would follow will a home run to left field giving DSC a 3-2 advantage.

In the fourth inning the DSC would erupt for seven runs on seven hits. Miller would hit her second home run of the day, this time a three run shot.

Folta would scatter seven hits, walk five batters and strike out four and pick up the victory.

Egge would collect four hits and Judkins had three. Cassie Merrill, Kylee Higgins (Layton. UT/Layton High School), and Dacosin would have two apiece.

For NDNU, Castro had three hits in the loss.

The Argonauts and the Red Storm do battle again tomorrow afternoon at Karl Brooks Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
