SUU - NCAA Road Continues for Manuele on Day One Add Comment    May 28, 2010

AUSTIN, Texas - May 27 - Sharla Manuele recorded a qualifying time for Saturday's final in the women's 1,500-meters, bringing her one step closer to a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  However, the road ended for several other T-Birds on day one, despite strong performances.

Manuele crossed the finish line with a time of 4:23.98 to qualify with one of the top 11 times in the race.  The Saturday finals will pose a challenge to the senior as it will be the same day that she is slated to compete in the women's 5,000-meter race.

In other competition on day one of the NCAA West Preliminaries, Forrest Ledbetter bested athletes from Kansas State, Texas A&M, Drake, Montana, USC and Iowa with a mark of 182 feet six inches in the men's javelin.  However, the mark was short of a qualifying distance to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Another road to the NCAA's came to an end as Christina Day came up short in the women's 400-meters.  Day's time of 54.99 was narrowly off her season-best time of 54.54 and only a few tenths of a second away from qualifying for the women's quarterfinals.

Jacki Stoddard was the final competitor for the Thunderbirds during the day, but results from the women's javelin have yet to be made available.  Her mark and finish will be included in the second day recap that will feature a recap of Wade Nielson in the men's high jump, Kodai Kusano in the men's 110-meter hurdles, Shaye Maurer in the women's 100-meter hurdles and Kristi Koplin in the women's discus.
